As an impressionable young middle schooler, I loved all types of music. I started playing guitar at the young age of 12 years old. The reason I wanted to become a musician was because my dad was in a band and I watched and listened to him practice in his office. I got my first guitar, a Les Paul and taught myself how to play. I got my first Fender Stratocaster and Marshall amplifier a few years later. This is when I really fell in love with the guitar stylings of Stevie Ray Vaughn.
In middle school I joined the jazz band and really applied myself in learning jazz chords and improvisation. I taught myself different popular rock songs and practiced many hours a day. I was able to play a few gigs sitting in with my dad band. This was my first really great opportunities to play live with a real band. Upon entering high school I was able to join a few bands and get some invaluable experience playing with really good musicians. This was when I started to teach myself how to play piano by ear.
I knew my future was to work as a musician in the music industry so I went to college to study music at Western Oregon University. I studied jazz guitar and voice in the School of Music. For the first time in my life, I was able to fully immerse myself in music. During my four years, I learned so much about music, including theory. I studied music (Guitar/Piano/Voice) for four years and graduated with a degree in Music
